66°North and the Forestry of Iceland

66°North officially signed a contract with the Icelandic Forestry Association (IFA) for the next forty years to build a forest in the name of 66°North. The partnership was signed in Úlfljótsvatn on May 29, 2021 by Helgi Rúnar Óskarsson, the CEO of 66°North and Jónatan Garðarsson, the chairman of the IFA.

The partnership involves planting around 11,000 trees over the next five years. 66°North has carbon offset its emissions in 2019 and 2020 in collaboration with Kolviður (Iceland Carbon Fund) by investing in the planting of 2,741 trees and the collaboration with the IFA is in addition to that.

The first step towards the 66°North forest was taken May 29, 2021 where the staff of 66°North and their families planted 100 trees. The next tree planting will take place in September 2021. The work is being done according to a certain plan so the end result will be a varied and beautiful forest.
