Product care

Circular
With proper care, a 66˚North garment can be an excellent and reliable article of clothing for years or decades to come. To maximize the wearability and maintain the characteristics of the garment we recommend following these washing instructions when the garment is washed.

Down

It’s best to wash the garment by itself in a washing machine on 30°C with liquid soap specifically intended for down. Do not use fabric softeners or detergents that contain bleach or stain removal – just the liquid soap will do! The garment should be dried on a low heat setting in a dryer. These washing instructions also apply for PrimaDown® products.

Special note: down parkas

Here things can get a bit complicated, so we recommend leaving the washing of the garment to professionals. There’s no shame in that! If you do decide to take matters into your own hands then it should be washed by itself in a washing machine at 30°C with liquid soap specifically intended for down. It’s important to remove any fur from the garment before it is washed and make sure all zippers and snap fasteners are closed. Do not use fabric softeners or detergents that contain bleach or stain removal. After washing the garment should be dried on a low setting in a dryer with a tennis ball (or something similar to beat the down). After around an hour in the dryer it’s best to turn it over. Total drying time can be around 2-4 hours, depending on the size of the garment. Note that colors may fade and the garment can take on a weathered texture after washing.

Microfiber Insulation

Primaloft®

PrimaLoft® is a technical insulation material which is as just comfortable when it comes to maintenance as it is wearing it. Close all zippers and snap fasteners before washing. PrimaLoft® garments should be washed in a washing machine at 40°C with mild detergent, no bleach. Hang it up to dry. Do not dry-clean, iron or place in dryer.

Thermolite®

Here we again recommend leaving professionals to the washing. If you’re up for the challenge then remove all fur before washing, along with closing all zippers and pockets. Wash in washing machine at 30°C with mild detergent for best results. As is often the case, then fabric softeners, stain removers and bleach should be avoided. Thermolite® garments should not be placed in a dryer, instead we recommend hanging it out to dry.

Gore-Tex®

Gore-Tex® is a highly technical material, which in turn makes washing it a bit of a technical operation. But do not despair! It’s no problem as long as you follow these technical steps. Close all zippers and snap fasteners before washing. Gore-Tex® clothing should be washed by itself in a washing machine at 40°C, with just a small about of liquid detergent. Only use liquid detergent and avoid use of fabric softeners, stain removers or bleach since they affect the garment’s characteristics – and we don’t want to reduce the technical elements of such a technical garment! Rinse twice on a low spin setting. It’s best to hang it up to dry, or alternately you can put it in a dryer on low heat. Once dry, tumble dry for further 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water repellency (DWR). More information can be found at this link to Gore-Tex®.

Shell Jackets & Rainwear

Shell

Regular washing is crucial when it comes to shell garments, as it helps them maintain their characteristics. Close all zippers and snap fasteners before washing, and then wash in a washing machine at 30°C with mild detergent, without any fabric softeners or bleach. Hang the garment up to dry after washing. Once dry, tumble dry for 10-20 minutes on low heat to reactivate the durable water repellency (DWR).

Rainwear

Before washing, it is very important that you close all zippers and tabs. Wash the garment at 30°C with a mild detergent and do not use any softener or bleach. Hang up to dry. Do not dry clean, iron or tumble dry the garment.

Fleece

Before washing your garment, zip all closures completely and fasten all flaps and straps. Machine wash at 30°C with a mild detergent without any softener or bleach and hang the garment up to dry. Do not tumble dry or dry clean.

Wool

Merino wool

For best results wash merino wool in a washing machine on the delicate cycle at 30°C with a mild detergent, rinse at low spin, no bleach. The wool is very delicate, so it should not be dry cleaned, placed in a dryer or criticized harshly. Lay the garment out to dry.

Other wool

Now it’s time to get old-school. Pay attention, since this is an essential skill for surviving in Iceland. Wash woolen clothing by hand with a mild detergent without bleach. Since woolen garments can not be ironed, placed in a dryer or dry-cleaned (as all residents of Iceland know), then hang or leave it out to dry on a flat, clean surface. Feel free to make some Icelandic pancakes or traditional kleinur (fried pastry), if you’re in the mood to complete this Icelandic ritual in local style.

Fur trim

It is best to avoid getting the fur trim wet. If you are wearing the parka in the rain it is good to remove the fur so that it doesn't get wet.

  • If the fur gets wet let it dry off at room temperature.
  • When it is dry, carefully comb trough it with a soft brush or a pet grooming brush.

To maintain its shape and volume we recommend brushing the fur with a soft brush or a pet brush every once in a while.

Avoid getting hairspray, perfume and such on the fur trim.

Never put the fur in the washing machine.

The fur comes from the Scandinavian company Sagafurs that is a leading company when it comes to quality and strictly regulated rules for animal care.
