Fabric:
Polartec® Power Shield® Pro
Fit:
Athletic.
Features:
  • The specially designed hood follows your head movements and it will never block your vision. You can adjust it using the drawstrings on the back and sides.
  • The hood will fit easily over a helmet. The drawstrings are designed so that the ends are less likely to be blown into your face, and the front is stiffened with wire so you can easily adjust its shape.
  • The sleeves have shaped elbows that won't restrict your movement.
  • The Vatnajökull soft shell jacket is light, only 600 g and it packs well. It has especially good breathing qualities that make it suitable for physically demanding and high activity outdoor pursuits.
  • The jacket and pockets are fitted with waterproof double YKK zip fasteners.
  • The jacket is 99% windproof—it allows a small amount of cooling air to penetrate, providing fast and effective breathing.
Recommended for:
  • To keep out the worst a Nordic winter can throw at you. You can ski, climb, fish, golf or hike hard in this jacket, without moisture building up inside.
Reviews:
  • Review from Sarah Sekula on TripAtlas.com
"This bright red Vatnajökull Softshell uses a new fabric called Polartec Power Shield Pro. When it comes to protecting yourself from extreme weather conditions, it is a popular pick. Case in point: Throughout my 13-hour hike up Hvannadalshnúkur, with temps ranging from 32 degrees fahrenheit to the mid-40s, I was never chilly. I traipsed through snow (packed and soft), trekked atop a glacier and slogged my way through windy conditions. Good thing the jacket is 99 percent windproof."

I own a STOMUR JACKET (Med) and the GLYMUR JACKET (Large) but this jacket has a totally diff fit. While my Med STOMUR has a loose trunk but tight/short sleeves and my Lg GLYMUR has a very athletic fit (tight arms, slightly longer sleeves tight trunk and very tight neck. I couldn't fit into a Med) this one has a slightly loose fit (compared to 66 North and most other Euro style clothes I've worn), maybe this is the "New Sizing" they are referring too on their site? I would say it fits like a hooded sweatshirt. This jacket fits my extremely long torso and leaves room for layers, the sleeves are a good length and loose enough for a heavy layer underneath, the neck is perfect with an improved zipper guard (compared to other 66 tops I've worn that rubbed me the wrong way) but can still be improved, the hood is nice and adjustable (with or without a small helmet). I love the breathability and water repellent properties of this jacket! Having writing that though, I wish it had a more athletic fit because this would work better for me as a high performance gear and I prefer my high performance gear to wear snug. I love the flexibility of the material, my movement is not hampered in any way. This jacket has only two pockets. I would say that unless you are really overweight you would be able to wear this jacket while the other 66 North jackets are off limits to everyone but the slim body types. To give you a reference, I am 5' 11" and 165 lbs.
