66°North to award expedition grants

Application deadline for the 66°North Expedition Grant expires on September 15th

leiðangursstyrkur.webIt’s no surprise adventurers are drawn to 66°North when seeking support for their expeditions. 66°North never hesitates to help when it can. Marta Gudjonsdottir’s commendable trek across the Greenland Glacier in support of the Icelandic Cancer Society, Leifur Arnar Svavarsson’s climb of Mt. Cho Oyu and other mountains and the epic 5 Peaks climb earlier this year by dozens of enthusiastic Icelanders are just a few examples that come to mind.

66°North is proud to announce it will award two expedition grants every year to the total of 500,000 Icelandic Kronur. One grant will be awarded to either an individual or group who are completing an expedition to either raise money for or awareness of a good cause. The other grant will be to an individual or a group who plan to undertake an expedition which is particularly challenging.

This grant will be made up of both high-quality 66°North outdoor wear and up to 200,000 Kronur. Applications from those wishing to be considered for a grant for the “good cause expedition” must reach the selection committee by March 15 each year. The decision for this category will be announced on April 1.

Applications for the “challenging expedition” must reach the selection committee by September 15 each year with the final decision for this category being announced on October 1. The selection committee consists of individuals from the Icelandic Alpine Club ISALP, the Landsbjorg/ICE-SAR rescue teams association, F.I. Iceland Touring Association, the Utivist Travel Association, The Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association, Icelandic Mountain Guides as well as a representative from 66°North. The committee goes through every application in detail and selects the two expeditions which are most worthy.

66°North hopes the expedition grants will not only be a valuable resource for those undertaking the expeditions but will also encourage and promote Iceland’s incredible outdoor wilderness.
