Caution: Elf Crossing

Be sure to stay alert while travelling in Iceland. The country is known as a hotspot for elves, fairies and other supposedly mythical creatures. A large number of Icelanders believe these little people do indeed exist, and elf-spotting tours are quite a popular endeavour. What’s more, when roads are being built in the country it is not uncommon for planned pathways to be diverted so as to avoid areas thought to be inhabited by elves. So if you notice the road suddenly shifting in one direction or another, keep your eyes peeled.
