66°North Iceland

Product Development

Product DevelopmentThe human body is very sensitive to fluctuations in body temperature and liquid levels. A fluctuation of more than 4°C can be fatal and the comfort zone is very narrow. Clothes are our main protective barrier.

In the past, Icelanders have used the so-called "onion approach". This meant layers of clothing you could put on or peel off. This approach is still used by 66°NORTH and is reflected in our unique 3-layer weather system which provides an excellent level of protection, comfort and endurance. We use constantly evolving high tech materials to achieve the best possible insulation, keeping you dry from body moisture and extreme weather conditions.

Next-to-Skin layer
Provides moisture control and initial insulation.

Inner layer
Provides thermal control and to evaporate moisture out.

Outer layer
Transpires moisture and acts as a shield against weather and wind.

DyrafjordurOur designs have different levels of functionality - a combination of materials and technical solutions based on the garment. We have developed various construction features, such as reach-high sleeves for climbing, adjustable swivel hood with a perfect fit that follows your head movements, pre-shaped articulation areas, integrated snow and wind cuffs, various venting, ease-of-adjustment features and many others.

The aim of all this engineering is to give our customers maximum freedom of movement together with protection and comfort.

Our close collaboration with the Icelandic Rescue Teams and extreme athletes, while developing and testing our products, has been fundamental. Together with them, we have designed strong, high quality, long-lasting garments with solutions that work.
