Across Iceland

Across Iceland Today, Wednesday July 8th, Jon Gunnar Benjaminsson who is paralyzed beneath the waist will commence on a five day long and very strenuous trip to Iceland’s highland on a four wheeler motorbike.

Jon Gunnar’s purpose of undertaking this expedition is to bring to people’s attention the fact that paralyzed people in wheelchairs have the same interest in travel and enjoying the outdoors as those who walk on both legs. In his trip, Jon Gunnar will also review the accessibility for people with disabilities in the lodges that are available for tourists in the highland.

Jon Gunnar was awarded the expedition grant of 66°North last spring, but the company bestows two grants every year for expeditions that are undertaken in the company’s name. One is to draw attention to a good cause or collect funds for it, and the other to support an expedition to new territories. By this, the company supports individuals or groups who want to be in the outdoors and work on a good cause at the same time.
