Half the victory!

More than 130 people from the “Reach the Top With 66°North” program climbed the Heidarhorn

Hálfur sigur unninnOn Saturday the 1st of March, more than 130 people who are participating in the training programme “Reach The Top With 66°NORTH” climbed the summit of Heidarhorn, the highest peak of West Iceland (1053 metres or 3450 feet). The walk was a part of the preparations to the climb of Hvannadalshnúkur, Iceland’s highest peak, at the beginning of summer. The group meets once a week to train for the challenge. Hvannadalshnúkur is 2110 metres or 6920 feet high, so one could say that half the victory was won last Saturday. The climb was organised by the company, Icelandic Mountain Guides, and all who went along were very pleased because the weather was perfect and the view from the top was fantastic. First they walked to the top of Mt. Skardshyrna and from there they climbed the summit of Heidarhorn. The walk took a total of 7 hours.

Around 250 people have already registered for the climbing of Hvannadalshnúkur and there are still places available. Those who are interested in joining the group are encouraged to contact Icelandic Mountain Guides, the phone number is +354 587-9999.
