Mt. Washington Ski Patrol Extends 66°NORTH's Extreme Testing Ground

66°NORTH will be outfitting the Mount Washington Ski Patrol, an organisation not unlike its home-based sponsored Icelandic Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR) teams. The Mt. Washington Ski Patrol traverses on the most dangerous mountain range on the east coast.  Supporting this extreme, backcountry ski patrol in 66°NORTH's arctic tested Icelandic performance outerwear is a natural testing extension into the ski community.

The Mt. Washington Ski Patrol exists to educate, ensure the safety of, and participate in the rescue of, the skiing public in the infamous Tuckerman Ravine, Huntington Ravine, Gulf of the Slides, Summit and the Snow Fields of Mount Washington.  Each year over 70,000 skiers, climbers and hikers visit these popular Ravines.

The climate of Mt. Washington and the Presidential Range is one of the most severe in the world.  The severity of winter storms is unequaled by any other reporting weather station in the continental U.S.  Arctic temperatures, fog, ice, frequent cloud cover, and super-hurricane force winds are so common in this small mountain range that it has earned the reputation as "home of the world's worst weather."

Minimalist yet fully featured design, versatility, exceptionally engineered hood and the incorporation of eVENT® dry venting fabric were all factors that determined the selection of the Glymur collection.  The 3-layer Glymur Jacket, Glymur Pants, and Technical Balaclava will be tested by the 27 member unit in its notorious wide range of temperatures and conditions from April to October.

66°NORTH has been keeping Icelanders warm since 1926.  No easy task as this country is a living study of extreme geological and weather conditions.  These natural wonders provide the world's best laboratory for 66°NORTH gear.  Similar to Mt. Washington, changes in weather can occur in the blink of an eye or a turn of the skies.  It is not uncommon to see a combination of sun, rain, sleet, snow and ice-blizzards in the course of a single trek up a mountain (or over a glacier in Iceland.)
